At Basset Hound Nest, the health and well-being of our puppies is our highest priority. We are committed to producing healthy, well-socialized Basset Hounds and proudly stand behind every puppy we place with a 2-Year Health Guarantee.
Veterinary Examination
Each puppy is examined by a licensed veterinarian before going to their new home and is up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming at the time of sale.
Congenital & Genetic Health Guarantee
We guarantee that your puppy is free from life-threatening congenital or hereditary defects for a period of two (2) years from the puppyâs date of birth.
This guarantee covers severe genetic conditions that significantly affect the puppyâs quality of life and are confirmed by a licensed veterinarian. Examples may include serious heart defects, debilitating hip or elbow dysplasia, or other inherited conditions that render the puppy unfit as a companion.
Buyer Responsibilities
To keep this health guarantee valid, the buyer agrees to:
Have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup or delivery
Provide proper nutrition, routine veterinary care, and a safe living environment
Keep the puppy at a healthy weight and avoid excessive exercise during growth
Follow all recommended vaccination and parasite prevention schedules
Failure to meet these responsibilities may void this guarantee.
What Is Not Covered
This health guarantee does not cover:
Minor or treatable conditions (such as parasites, allergies, or skin issues)
Illnesses caused by environmental factors, injury, neglect, or accidents
Normal Basset Hound traits (such as long ears, droopy eyes, or mild ear infections)
Conditions resulting from improper care, overfeeding, or lack of veterinary attention
Claim Procedure
If a serious genetic condition is suspected, the buyer must:
Notify Basset Hound Nest immediately
Provide written documentation from two licensed veterinarians, one being a specialist if requested
Allow the breeder reasonable time to review the diagnosis
Resolution
If the puppy is confirmed to have a qualifying genetic condition within the 2-year guarantee period, the buyer will be offered:
A replacement puppy of equal value (when available), or
A partial refund, at the breederâs discretion
No reimbursement will be made for veterinary bills, transportation, or related expenses.
Final Notes
This guarantee applies only to the original purchaser and is non-transferable. We strongly encourage open communication and are always available to support our puppy families throughout the life of their dog.
